Would you like your break to be something completely different? Something unusual and extreme? The Czech Republic offers an ever-growing list of possibilities for fans of extreme sports.
Parachute jumps, balloon flights, paragliding, bungee-jumping
- Tandem parachute jumps from 3-4000 metres, free-fall lasting 50-60 seconds, fall with open parachute 5-6 minutes. (www.jump-tandem.cz)
- Hot-air balloons were the first pioneers of the air, yet the magic remains (www.balony.cz).
- Bungee-jumping – the highest leap and rebound (www.bungyjump.szm.com) is from the 55-metre high bridge by the medieval castle of Loket.
- Jumping from the Zvíkov Reservoir bridge (www.bungee.cz) – in good conditions the instructors even allow contact with the water surface!
- Tandem flights and paragliding courses (www.pgschool.net, www.scelet.net, www.elspeedo.cz) can easily become a favourite activity.
Climbing, climbing centres
- The Prague Rope Centre (Pražské lanové centrum) (www.vysokalana.cz) combines rope climbing and water sports. It can be found in the Prague suburb of Vysočany
- Tarzanie (www.tarzanie.cz) – a rope trail of clever barriers suspended 4-12 m above the ground. The park can be found in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí.
- Climbing Centre (Lezecké centrum Holešovice) (www.stenaholesovice.cz) is the largest in the country.
- The largest outdoor climbing wall (www.stenastrasnice.cz) is in the Prague suburb Strašnice.
Bobsled runs
- Bobsled runs can be found in Špindlerův Mlýn and Harrachov in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) (www.bobovka.cz)
- In Kutná Hora there are a total of three downhill runs, together forming the largest complex in the Czech Republic (www.bobovadrahakutnahora.cz)
- The Prosek run (www.bobovadraha.cz) – not far from the centre of Prague, track length of 1 km, tow-rope, illuminated at night.
- Another sled run is located beside the reservoir of Lipno (www.slideland.cz), thanks to heating it is in operation year-round.
Points of interest
A cart ride is available for the brave in Mosty u Jablunkova (www.skimostycz). No other such ride can be found anywhere else in the country. It is operational year-round and close by is a major ski resort.
Paintball
The Czech Republic also offers a number of paintball areas. For these, make your way to Brno (www.paintball-brno.cz), Prague or Benešov (www.paintballgame.cz)
Go-karts
The longest go-kart track in the Czech Republic is in Pilsen (www.superkarting.cz)
Acrobatic skiing and snowboarding
- Acrobat Park (www.acrobatpark.com) is run by the Olympic champion in acrobatic skiing, Aleš Valenta, where courses in winter extreme sports are on offer as long as the snow lasts
- Snowboarders can go all out in the snow park at Svatý Petr (www.skiarelaspindl.cz) with a great many jumps, crossover tracks, and an area for acrobatic skiing.
- The snow park in Horní Mísečky (www.skiarealspindl.cz) offers a chance for both hardened snowboarding veterans and new beginners to test their nerve.
- In the Klínovec ski complex (www.klinovec.cz) are a U-ramp, large jump and a small jump for children and beginners.
- Other snow parks can be found in Pec pod Sněžkou (www.skipec.com), Špičák (www.spicak.cz), Ski Areál Bílá (www.skibila.cz) and Herlíkovice (www.snowhill.cz).
