Sport as part of your time at the spa

back to list

Experts advise those staying at spas to adopt a healthy lifestyle which will help the visitor to better deal with the strains of modern life. A healthy lifestyle, as is the case with a relaxing stay at a spa, involves movement.

Spa walks, cycle paths and sports facilities

Our ancestors understood that movement is an important part of any spa break, and so to improve physical and psychological health they created many kilometres of special walking trails.
Today, as cycling becomes increasingly popular, the spas are doing their best to keep pace. Around spa towns there are now kilometre upon kilometre of cycle trails of varying levels of difficulty. For instance, the flat terrain around the town of Třeboň stands in stark contrast with the cycle paths around spa towns located in mountainous areas.
In recent years countless sports facilities have appeared in spa towns such as water parks, tennis courts etc.

Golf

Golf belongs to the general spa tradition. There are almost 60 golf courses near Czech spas, the best-known and oldest being those in Carlsbad (www.golfresort.cz) and Marienbad. Since 2003 the golf course in Marienbad has had the right to use the title Royal Golf Club (www.golfml.cz), following a decision taken by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.
Whether you are an experienced golfer or would just like to have a go at this popular sport while taking the opportunity to try some of the spa procedures on offer, there are many spa facilities providing this combination of activities.

Angling

Angling is also possible at Czech spas. One of the best-loved places to catch fish is the lake area around Třeboň (www.trebon-mesto.cz), which thanks to its location in the heart of the South Bohemian lake district is ideal for anglers. Another anglers’ heaven are the spas at Toušeň (www.slatinnelaznetousen.cz) and Velké Losiny (www.lvl.cz), the latter also being renowned for its handmade paper.

Winter sports

Are you a fan of winter sports? The Czech spas are open all year round meaning that in winter you can enjoy them in combination with skiing or snowboarding. You will find many ski resorts and kilometres of cross-country skiing trails near Czech spas – For instance around Jáchymov (www.laznejachymov.cz), Jánské Lázně (http://www.janske-lazne.cz), Jeseník (www.jesenik.org), Karlova Studánka (www.k.studanka.cz), Lázně Libverda (www.laznelibverda.cz ) and many more.
