The Czech capital is one of the most beautiful places on earth – a space of magic, and a true paradise for the romantic spirit. Here you can walk along narrow medieval streets lit by authentic gaslight, row quietly together along the Vltava River or stop in a cosy café where time stopped a century ago.
Prague’s gardens and parks
Prague’s parks and public gardens are ideally suited for a romantic stroll:
Petřín Hill
A cable-car leads to the very top of the hill, where it is possible to visit the Štefánik Observatory (www.observatory.cz), the Hall of mirrors and chiefly the Petřín Tower, a miniature copy of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Following the paths through the parks and orchards below the tower only adds to the romantic atmosphere.
Vrtba Garden (Vrtbovská zahrada)
A palace garden with an intimately romantic atmosphere just below the Petřín Hill, the Vrtba Garden is also the location for outdoor chamber concerts in the summer months.
Wallenstein Garden (Valdštejnská zahrada)
Hvězda [Star] summer palace and game park
The star-shaped Renaissance summer palace Hvězda, surrounded by a former game park of the same name, is the ideal place for a pleasant stroll.
Letná Plain (Letenská pláň)
A fascinating view of the medieval heart of Prague, along with outdoor seating over coffee or beer, is offered from the park atop Letná plain.
Kampa
Kampa, a romantic island with an oval-shaped central square directly below the western end of Charles Bridge, is a truly magical location, linked with more than one legend as well as the legacies of a number of Czech writers and composers who once dwelled there.
