The Czech Republic has a vast array of places you can enjoy nature as she wakes from her winter slumber. The rock formations in the Czech Paradise Region, the Czech Switzerland and the Adršpach and Teplice rocks are places unparalleled in Europe. The flora and fauna in the Lednice-Valtice area are also something rather special.
The Pálava Hills
The Pálava Hills protected area, crisscrossed with walking trails and containing many rare plant and animal species, is a superb place for a spring trip, where you can enjoy stunning views of the landscape around the town of Mikulov.
A few tips…:
Lednice
Every year near the UNESCO-listed chateau at Lednice, the villagers celebrate the beginning of the sailing season on the River Dyje. After the ceremony, visitors can look forward to a scenic boat trip along the river (www.1plavebni.cz).
The Czech Paradise region
The so-called Czech Paradise is one of the most beautiful parts of the Czech Republic. Visitors can look forward to an idyllic valley full of rock formations, meadows, traditional timber buildings, viewing points from the tops of cliffs, historical sights (in the towns of Jičín, Mnichovo hradiště etc) and numerous castles and chateaux (for instance the ruins of Trosky castle, the Renaissance chateau at Hrubá Skála, and Kost Castle).
A few tips…
At the end of March take part in an organised walk through the Czech Paradise area called A Stroll with Rumcajs (a Czech cartoon character from the area). The walk starts on Valdštejn square in Jičín and ends at the ruins of Trosky Castle. The route for walkers can be anything from 5 to 50 km, for cyclists 19 to 87 km.
